About Me

My name is Marco Yepez-Gomez and I am a proud Marshalltown resident running to represent Marshalltown Ward 1. I am running to advocate for public transit, housing, and our downtown. I believe strong communities are built with bold visions that focus on building instead of destroying, being inclusive instead of divided, and working together instead of alone.

Like many people in Marshalltown, I am a proud son of immigrants who came here for a better life. I grew up here, went to public school here, and now work at Marshalltown Company as a Software Engineer. As a kid, I benefited from programs like food assistance and Medicaid, as well as higher education opportunities like the Marshalltown Education Partnership and Science Bound, which opened many doors for me throughout my life. I know from experience that when people have access to the right support, they can reach their full potential — no matter where they begin. I believe a strong community is one where opportunity is real for everyone, and where hard work is met with the resources needed to thrive.

I love Marshalltown and am proud of the progress we’ve made together. Our community has grown stronger, more welcoming, and more connected over the years. But I also recognize that across the country — and here at home — too many Americans are still struggling to make ends meet. Rising costs, limited housing options, and other challenges hold people back from the stability they work hard for. We can take pride in how far we’ve come while also committing to do our part to ensure every person has the support and opportunity they need to build a better life.

Marshalltown’s best days are still ahead of us, but they won’t happen by accident. They will happen when we work side by side, listen to each other, and take bold steps toward a future that includes everyone. I’m ready to do that work, and I hope you’ll stand with me. Together, we can make sure our community is a place where every person has the chance to succeed and call Marshalltown home for generations to come.
